Mihara Yasuhiro, a pioneer of Nishijin weaving, releases a collaborative bag with Tumi

Jul 30, 2013

MIHARA YASUHIRO will release a bag in collaboration with TUMI, a brand known for its business and travel bags, in December. A pre-order event will be held at MIHARA YASUHIRO Tokyo (1F GATE SQUARE, 5-2-14 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) from August 2nd to 4th.

The collaborative bag uses Nishijin-ori fabric from Hosoo, a long-established Kyoto company founded in 1688. It is woven using a traditional technique that allows the pattern to change appearance depending on the light.

The lineup includes three styles: a carry bag (241,500 yen), a backpack (126,000 yen), and a Boston bag (189,000 yen) that was also featured in the show. Each bag comes in two patterns: camouflage and python.

Mihara Yasuhiro collaborated with Hosoo for the first time in a year for his 12-13 AW collection, which was presented in runway show format in Paris, producing Nishijin-ori suits and other items. The long dress shown at the same time was worn by model and actress Tao, who stars in the film "The Wolverine," at the recent London premiere screening. The 14 SS collection will also continue to feature caps and shoes made with Nishijin-ori.
