A special exhibition of photographer Takashi Homma's work is being held from July 17th to November 6th in Exhibition Room A of the Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art in Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture. The exhibition features Takashi Homma's new work, "Mitsukoshi Wrapping Paper," inspired by the "Hana Hiraku" wrapping paper designed by Kagawa-born painter Genichiro Inokuma. The photographs, which depict "Hana Hiraku" photographs taken in the streets of Tokyo and Kagawa, were originally improvised for a television program. This spring, the photographs were newly shot for a collaborative event with the Setouchi Triennale. These graffiti-like photographs, in which the familiar Mitsukoshi wrapping paper suddenly appears in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, where the Mitsukoshi flagship store is located, and in Genichiro Inokuma's hometown of Kagawa Prefecture, transforming unexpected items into "gifts," create an installation that combines actual wrapping paper with graffiti-like images in the permanent exhibition room where Inokuma's works are displayed.
