The "Kimura Ihei Photography Award 40th Anniversary Exhibition," showcasing works from the Kimura Ihei Photography Award, often referred to as the "Akutagawa Prize of the photography world," will be held at Kawasaki City Museum from July 18 to September 23.
The "Kimura Ihei Photography Award" was established by the Asahi Shimbun Company in 1975 to commemorate the achievements of the late Kimura Ihei, a photographer representing the Showa era who contributed greatly to the development of Japanese photography. Each year, the award is presented to a young photographer who has achieved outstanding results and pioneered new eras. Past recipients include Shinya Fujiwara, Kyoichi Tsuzuki, Takashi Homma, Mika Ninagawa, HIROMIX, and Kayo Ume.
In addition to all award-winning works from the first to 40th awards, the exhibition will also feature works by Kimura Ihei. This exhibition explores the history of contemporary photography over the past 40 years, showcasing landscapes, people, nature, and social issues captured by Japan's leading photographers.

In addition, as related events, on August 5th there will be a talk event by 34th award-winning artist Asada Masashi, entitled "Even Kimura Ihei would be surprised! Let's take fun family photos." On August 19th there will be a talk event by 5th award-winning artist Iwago Mitsuaki, with Sasaki Hiroto, editor-in-chief of camera and photography magazine Asahi Camera, as the audience.

In addition, various events will be held, such as an introductory course for photography beginners, "Let's take great photos with your first digital camera," a "Workshop: Let's make a giant camera!" where you can experience how a camera works, and photo critiques by reviewers.
