The Art Aquarium Production Committee will open the "Art Aquarium Museum" on August 28, 2020. Created by author and general producer Hidetomo Kimura, Art Aquarium is a new type of museum that combines art, design, and entertainment with an aquarium. Now in its 14th year, the exhibition boasts a cumulative total of 10 million visitors, and this summer it will open its first permanent exhibition in a dedicated facility. This will be one of the largest exhibitions to date.

■ New, Specially Designed Areas: "Old Pine," "Pleasure," and "Souvenirs" Open

24 solar terms and 72 seasonal phases...In Japan, the four seasons were once divided into 24 solar terms (risshun, usui, rikka, etc.), which were then further divided into 72 five-day periods called the 72 seasonal phases, and people were sensitive to the changing of the seasons. Introduction to some areas
[Ukiyo] The Ukiyo-e "Oiran Dochu" created by the masterpiece "Oiran"

The Hanamachi district was the most glamorous and innovative place during the Edo period. Even within the Hanamachi district, the most dazzling and iconic moment is the "Oiran Dochu." This masterpiece recreates the Oiran Dochu with a variety of "Oiran" large and small, masterpieces from several Art Aquariums. The evolved lighting and sound systems allow you to experience an unprecedented sense of realism.
【Mystery】Get lost in a mysterious world at "Goldfish Forest"

Goldfish Forest can be viewed from both the first and second floors of the venue, and the view changes depending on where you view it, allowing you to experience the joy of appreciating one artwork from multiple perspectives. From the first floor, the boundary between the underwater world and the outside world becomes blurred, and you are enveloped in a floating space. From the second floor, you can enjoy a bird's-eye view of the beauty of the mysterious world you have been wandering through. The artwork uses the entire space, creating a mysterious and fantastical spatial presentation. The images may change depending on the season.
Introduction to some of our works
Round Window Rium [New Work]

Circular windows have been used in Japanese architecture since ancient times, such as in tea rooms. Peeking through them reveals a beautiful scene. Perhaps it is the atmosphere of the circular window that stimulates the imagination to imagine the scenery beyond. Open the shoji screen and an extraordinary world unfolds before you through a mysterious window where goldfish swim.
Sekiterium [New Work]

A rock garden is a dry landscape garden that has been further removed from the garden by removing as many trees as possible. Sekiterium is a rock garden expressed with ultimate simplicity, in which the water, which was the first to be removed, is expressed as stones, the last to be left, and goldfish swim among them, in a work that overturns previous concepts of garden making.
Giant Goldfish Lantern [New Product]

Goldfish swim gently in a large lantern-shaped aquarium. They look just like flickering flames. They fantastically illuminate the red-light district at night.

■Facility Concept: "A museum where life dwells"
The beloved summertime tradition of the Art Aquarium has evolved into a large-scale permanent exhibition, showcasing seasonal changes throughout the year. It's a new museum experience, offering new discoveries every time you visit. This will be the first time the museum has been held outside of the summer season. Furthermore, we've produced an original space that stimulates the senses of "life," "light," "sound," "scent," and "taste." Now, at a turning point in people's values toward entertainment, we've focused on "sensing with all five senses" and thoroughly pursued art that "can only be experienced in real life." This is the kind of "living" museum. Art Aquarium: Art aquarium artist Hidetomo Kimura, who established the unique art genre of "Art Aquarium" by fusing art, design, entertainment, and aquariums, presents a new art exhibition from Japan to the world. What began as "Sky Aquarium" in 2007 has evolved into "Art Aquarium," a goldfish-focused exhibition with a fantastical Japanese aesthetic reminiscent of the Edo geisha district. ART AQUARIUM, which has been held every summer in Nihonbashi, Tokyo since 2011, has grown into an event that can be considered a summer tradition in Nihonbashi. To date, a total of 37 exhibitions have been held in Japan, including Hokkaido, Nagano, Ishikawa, Aichi, Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo, Hiroshima, Kumamoto, Fukuoka, and Okinawa, as well as overseas, including Milan, Italy in 2015 and Shanghai, China in 2018. Its unique worldview has earned it high praise both at home and abroad, and to date it has attracted a total of 10 million visitors.
