[13-14 AW Exhibition] "HYKE"'s first season features clothes made with navy as the key theme

Apr 8, 2013

HYKE, the brand created by former "green" duo Hideaki Yoshihara and Yukiko Oide, unveiled their 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection. It was announced through an exhibition and video.
This first season, the collection is based on the theme of navy and the US Navy. The collection features a full range of items, including suits, knitwear, dresses, and shirts, in muted shades of gray, beige, and navy. The navy motif is evident in pea coats, duffle coats, CPO jackets, wool caps, and shoes.
The caps are custom-made by New Era, an American brand that once supplied the Navy. The shoes are designed with the image of Navy-issued oxford shoes from the 1940s. The uppers are made from oiled leather by Horween, a long-established Chicago leather company also used by Alden.
The buttons feature 13 stars, representing the number of US states at the time, and the HYKE logo is engraved on the back.
Attention has been paid to even the smallest details, such as using corduroy for the pocket lining of the coat, incorporating the functionality of the old uniforms. They also proposed styling that combined skirts and pants, and the slacks are left-opening and have no pockets, so are designed to be layered over a skirt.

They also released denim items, a staple of Green's days. "We received inquiries about denim even during the hiatus. We wanted to do something we hadn't done before, but we're not denying our previous activities, so we created something that retained the Green taste," said Yoshihara. Regarding his decision to restart, Yoshihara said, "During the Green era, I worked without a break, even on weekends, but I had a child and my living environment changed, so I put the brand on hold. I had planned to resume in two or three years, but in reality, the situation didn't change much, and I felt it would be difficult. However, various events, such as the earthquake, changed my mindset, and I decided not to hesitate and start with what I could do in my current situation, so I started HIKE. I didn't want the brand name to be restricted by the name, so I named it after the initials of my four family members. My basic approach to making clothes hasn't changed. By taking a break, I've returned to my roots and am now making things that are truly filled with love. I want to continue doing my best, given the scale of our business."

Partner Oide will be leaving work at 5 p.m. The exhibition was held in the former location of the company's flagship store.
