Fashion designer Marc Jacobs was born in New York in 1963. While studying at Parsons School of Design, he won one of fashion's most prestigious awards, the CFDA's Perry Ellis Award for New Designers, and subsequently became the designer for the New York brand Perry Ellis.

He founded his own brand in 1986 and has also served as artistic director of Louis Vuitton since 1997. Known as an art lover and Japanophile, he has collaborated with graffiti artist BAST for his own brand, Takashi Murakami and Yayoi Kusama for Louis Vuitton, and more recently with Hatsune Miku, which has garnered much attention.

Fan-like fashion designer Martin Margiela was born in Belgium in 1957. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Design in Antwerp, he gained experience at Jean-Paul Gaultier's atelier before launching his own brand in 1988. He also worked as a designer for Hermes from 1998 to 2004. He is said to have retired from the brand with the collection marking the 20th anniversary of the brand's founding, and the collection is currently being continued by a design team.
