MUJI will be launching the "re-muji" recycling project at its Tenjin Daimyo store, which opens on March 5th. The project involves re-dyeing clothing collected by the brand and refreshing it into new products. The project follows the techniques of indigo dyeing specialists, popular during the Edo period and known as "konya," and incorporates modern chemical dyes. This prevents color fading and allows customers to enjoy the different finishes achieved by varying the intensity of the three dyes. MUJI has been participating in the "FUKU-FUKU Project" since 2010, an initiative to collect textile products and convert them into energy resources. As of 2014, approximately 60 tons of textile products have been collected. This project was born out of the discovery that many of the collected clothing items could be recycled. The company is creating new recycled products as one-of-a-kind items that reflect individuality in the differences in material, color, and condition.
The lineup includes cut-and-sew items, shirts, bottoms, and more, with miscellaneous items also available for women. All items are priced at 2,900 yen.
