Wacoal has launched the "2015 Wacoal Bra Recycle" initiative, collecting unwanted bras. The campaign runs from February 12th to April 22nd.
The collected bras are recycled into an industrial solid fuel called RPF. Using this fuel reduces carbon dioxide emissions and is considered effective in preventing global warming. The recyclable bags distributed in stores are also made at a paper mill using RPF as fuel and are designed to seal bras. The bag designs for fiscal 2015 were created by embroidery artist Ayako Otsuka.
Wacoal has been conducting this initiative since 2008, and has collected approximately 821,500 bras to date. A special website was launched ahead of this year's campaign, and a promotional video will be released featuring three popular YouTube streamers. One of these, makeup performer Sasaki Asahi, commented, "Until now, I've been unable to throw away bras, but when I've had to just throw them in the trash, it feels weird. Being able to have them collected is a great way to contribute to society." Russian YouTuber Asiya plans to release a video in late February, and kumamiki, who posts videos about makeup and fashion, plans to release one in early March. Bras Save the Earth!?
