On January 22nd, Louis Vuitton presented a collection dedicated to Tokyo-based designer Christopher Nemeth, who passed away suddenly in 2010, in a glass-walled greenhouse in Parc André Citroën in Paris. The show's background music was a Bristol Sound and Groundbeat mix by Nellee Hooper, a producer active since the late 1980s. Designer Kim Jones, who had long expressed a desire to collaborate with Nemeth through personal acquaintance, scattered Nemeth's signature rope motif and stitching evocative of his work throughout his collection, tracing Nemeth's work while incorporating it into Louis Vuitton's signature high fashion. The rope motif, in particular, was expressed using various techniques, including jacquard, flocking, and needle punching, and was also used on a cut fur coat. Knitwear featuring laser-cut cork was also on display, giving a strong sense of Louis Vuitton's cutting-edge and experimental nature.
One example of an idea that Nemeth had developed was that of items woven with washi paper, demonstrating a profound creation that goes beyond simple homage. Monogram bags, watches, and shoes featuring dancing rope motifs were also presented, but a brooch by Nemeth's friend, stylist and designer Judy Blame, who was with Buffalo in the 1980s, also left a strong impression.
