Louis Vuitton Mixes the 70s with the Past and Future in its 2015 Spring/Summer Women's Collection

Oct 6, 2014

LOUIS VUITTON presented Nicolas Ghesquière's third collection, Spring/Summer 2015. The presentation took place at the Louis Vuitton Foundation, a contemporary art museum belonging to the LVMH Group, which opens on October 27th. The collection revolves around four key phrases: British, romantic, luxurious, and arty. Ghesquière's signature mix of diverse elements is evident. While last season's inspiration was the 1960s, this season's seems to be more 1970s. The collection kicks off with a white bow dress incorporating Victorian elements. Paired with a navy blazer, it evokes a 1970s vibe. Another dress features a 1970s sticker-style print of lipstick and automobiles. The skirt and blouson, striped in red and blue, mustard and black, are crafted from eel leather. A romantic black dress incorporating lingerie elements features lavish embroidery on the placket and a variety of materials, including fabric and leather. There was also an elaborate dress made entirely of sequins with a curtain-like pattern.

The gorgeous decorations were carried over into floral leather blousons and psychedelic velvet items. The blouson was made from shrunk pigskin with a three-dimensional floral pattern. The velvet pants had a wide silhouette with slightly flared legs. Both were reminiscent of the flower children and rock stars of the 1970s.

The accessories were also interesting, with boot heels actually in the shape of a monogram and dip-art style earrings.
