Hankyu Men's Tokyo reopens in March as a new "adventure base" for men

Feb 4, 2019
Hankyu Men's Tokyo in Yurakucho, Tokyo, will be reopening on March 15th with a new concept.

Hankyu Men's Tokyo opened in October 2011 as a men's fashion specialty store for adults, with the theme "For men, the world is their stage." This first major renovation since its opening will see the store completely renovated from the basement to the seventh floor, with the theme "BASE," meaning foundation, standard, and base, as an "adventure base" for creative-conscious men. The store aims to be a new department store style that serves as a starting point for men's fashion and culture. The 7th floor is a floor that proposes fashion and lifestyles with new value that are reinterpreted by combining authentic items with stories backed by history and culture with modern elements. With the theme of "Vintage & Revival," this floor is positioned as the most symbolic of the store concept. With a focus on vintage items carefully selected by domestic and international professionals with first-class aesthetics, the floor also offers a wide range of furniture, music, miscellaneous goods, hobby goods, and more, and suggests ways to enjoy them all. There are also new and trending businesses lined up, such as a barber shop born from a collaboration between LUDLOW BLUNT, headquartered in Brooklyn, USA, and Double RL, a brand by RALPH LAUREN. The sixth floor is filled with unique and cutting-edge fashion ideas that aren't bound by rules or trends. Shoppers will find GARAGE D.EDIT, a select shop that curates a unique selection of emerging brands discovered both in Japan and overseas, as well as American jewelry brand CODY SANDERSON, which will be opening its first store in Japan, and other leading brands in Japan's street scene, including UNDERCOVER, COMME des GARÇONS JUNYA WATANABE MAN, and NEIGHBORHOOD. There will also be a new event and gallery space featuring vending machines with limited edition items, gadgets, and gifts.

The fifth floor is a shoe specialty floor that shoe enthusiasts will drool over, offering a selection of shoes from around the world, from traditional British shoes to contemporary sneakers. In addition to a shoe collection rich in diversity in origins and designs, the store also carries long-established leather shoe brands such as Sergio Rossi, the world's first men's shop, Santoni, and John Lobb. There is also a bespoke salon where you can order suits and leather shoes, a nail salon specializing in toenails, and a shoe repair workshop. The entire floor will propose new values related to shoes.

The fourth floor is home to a collection of authentic items, from suits to accessories, primarily suited to business settings. The store offers a selection of "authentic" items to satisfy the mature man who "doesn't want to stand out, but still wants to look stylish at work." In addition to carrying high-end brands such as "EMPORIO ARMANI," "Brooks Brothers," and "LARDINI," the store also features a custom-made salon where you can create your own unique outfit, as well as "3rd STYLE," a select shop curated exclusively by Hankyu Men's.

The second and third floors will offer cutting-edge fashion and the highest quality high-end fashion under the theme of "THE PRINCIPLE." The third floor will feature luxury brands for adults that enhance masculinity, such as "TOM FORD," "FENDI," and "Thom Browne." On the second floor, up-and-coming brands that combine innovation and quality, such as "Acne Studios" and "N°21," will make their first men's shop appearance in a department store (scheduled for mid-April). The first floor will offer men's cosmetics for those who seek borderless self-expression, regardless of age or gender. In addition to showcasing an overwhelming selection of maison fragrances from around the world, the store will also offer an interactive sales floor offering a diverse range of men's cosmetics. Furthermore, stores for some of today's most talked-about designer brands, including OFF-WHITE c/o VIRGIL ABLOH™, CELINE, and Saint Laurent, are scheduled to open in early July. The basement floor will be home to high-quality, functional travel items for a comfortable journey and accessories designed to express individuality. The store offers a wide range of travel leather goods, stationery, shirts, ties, small leather goods, and eyewear for both business and casual wear, as well as the latest digital accessories. It also offers a bespoke shirt corner that offers the ultimate in comfort and personalisation, as well as custom-made wallet patterns and engraving services. Each floor will feature an academic explanation of the story behind the floor concept, stimulating the intellectual curiosity of men who are keen on the latest trends. Event spaces throughout the building will also offer an even more engaging shopping experience. A total of approximately 1.75 billion yen will be invested in the renovation, which is scheduled for completion in early July.
