Kate Spade New York will be releasing its new creative director, Nicola Glass's Spring 2019 collection in Japan on January 23rd, ahead of the rest of the world. To celebrate the collection's release, the brand has unveiled visuals by photographer Tim Walker.

These visuals by photographer Tim Walker were released to celebrate the first collection by new creative director Nicola Glass. Tim Walker is known for his story-driven, surrealistic style, and this marks his return to the brand for the first time since his collaboration with founders Kate and Andy Spade from 1999 to 2006.
The heroines of the campaign are actresses Julia Garner, Sadie Sink, and Kiki Layne. All three are women who embody Nicola Glass's brand concept of "optimistic femininity," and are positive and confident, yet also possess a warm and comfortable sensibility. The visuals express the optimistic and feminine worldview that is at the core of Nicola Glass's new brand vision, and are inspired by the collection's theme of friends getting together on a spontaneous weekend, sharing the joy and intimate moments of life. Styling was done by Sarah Moon.

While respecting the brand's core DNA of "modern color usage and authentic design," which has remained unchanged since ancient times, Nicola has evolved the brand's identity in her own unique way. While drawing inspiration from the brand's origins, each season she strives to establish certain core elements that are consistent across all categories. One of these is the "spade." Spades appear frequently as part of designs throughout the collection, sometimes boldly and sometimes subtly, in patterns, hardware, and motifs shaped like spades.
Feminine silhouettes reminiscent of the '70s and '40s, a palette bursting with modern and unexpected color combinations, unique and one-of-a-kind prints that are full of discovery, and carefully thought-out handbag tags that take the collection to the next level - all of these express Nicola's vision of "everyday luxury."

The first collection will be available in Japan on January 23rd, ahead of the rest of the world. A launch event for the collection will be held on the first floor of the Ginza store on January 25th and 26th. A photo booth, catering, and more will be available, allowing visitors to experience the store design directed by Nicola. Drinks will also be available at select stores on February 9th and 10th.
