The PASS THE BATON GALLERY inside the PASS THE BATON Omotesando store will be holding the "DEAD STOCK PORCELAIN MARKET - Arita ware and Hasami ware deadstock pottery market" from December 29th to January 27th, 2019.

Seikai Touki is based in Hasami, one of Japan's leading ceramic production areas, and deals in ceramics from the Hizen region of Kyushu, which boasts a history of around 400 years. This second "Pottery Fair" follows the one held at the gallery from 2017 to 2018 over the New Year period. This year, Nishikai Porcelain will bring out deadstock Arita and Hasami ware from its warehouses, produced in the late 1980s and 1990s, to hold a "Pottery Fair."
The late 1980s was the height of Japan's economic bubble, and it was also the heyday of Hizen porcelain, with its distribution both overseas and nationwide. Approximately 600 types and 3,000 pieces of high-quality, gorgeous Japanese tableware will be on display, featuring vibrant paintings and gold leaf that evoke the era, as well as processing techniques that are becoming increasingly rare. At the time, these items were primarily sold for commercial use in Japanese cuisine and kappo restaurants, making them difficult for individuals to obtain. Many of these unique pieces cannot be reproduced due to various factors, including production system, technology, and cost, making this a valuable lineup available only while supplies last. This year, Nishikai Pottery will be the main focus, with new finds from the warehouses of neighboring manufacturers also being added.
