The Tokiwa Museum's Global Botanical Garden in Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, which reopened in 2017, is based on the concept of a "global travel and inspiring botanical garden." It is divided into eight zones that are designed with the vegetation of their native habitats in mind, and features distinctive symbolic trees, allowing visitors to encounter rare plants, flowers, and fruits as if traveling the world. During the exhibition period, from 7pm to 10pm, it becomes a digital art space that changes depending on the presence of people. The exhibition will feature a botanical garden that brings together plants from all over the world, and various animals and creatures that live among these plants, with flowers being born, blooming, scattering and disappearing from the bodies of these animals and creatures in "Creatures that live among plants that travel the world and live with flowers," as well as "Continuing Beings and Independent yet Resonating Life," in which each independent, standing light object shines brightly and then fades as if it is slowly breathing, and resonates with nearby objects, changing to the same light color and emitting a tone.
"Resisting and Resonating Ovoids and Forest – Forest of Tadasu at Shimogamo Shrine"
"Resisting and Resonating Ovoids and Forest – Forest of Tadasu at Shimogamo Shrine"
teamLab, 2018, Interactive Digital Installation, Endless, Sound: Hideaki Takahashi
Shimogamo Shrine, a World Heritage Site in Kyoto, is home to the artwork "Resisting and Resonating Ovoids and Forest – Forest of Tadasu at Shimogamo Shrine," which transforms the approach to Tadasu Forest into an art space of light, and the space inside the tower gate of Shimogamo Shrine is home to the artwork "Resonating and Resonating Ovoids and Forest – Forest of Tadasu at Shimogamo Shrine." "Resonating Forest: Shimogamo Shrine" will be exhibited, transforming the trees lining the approach and the interior of the tower gate into an art space that changes with the presence of people through the use of light, sound, and digital technology.
"Resonating Forest: Shimogamo Shrine Tadasu no Mori" is an artwork in which the light of the standing objects and trees is independent, shining brightly and fading as if they are slowly breathing. When a standing object is pushed by a person and begins to fall over, the color of its light changes and a tone specific to that color resonates. The light then spreads radially to the nearby standing objects and trees, resonating in the same tone and spreading continuously. It also resonates with a sphere of light floating in the space inside the tower gate of Shimogamo Shrine beyond, and the light of the sphere also spreads beyond the tower gate to the standing objects and trees. A surge of light from the other side of the long approach signifies the presence of people and forest animals.
"Resonating Spheres – Forest of Tadasu at Shimogamo Shrine"
"Resonating Spheres – Forest of Tadasu at Shimogamo Shrine"
teamLab, 2016, Interactive Installation, Endless, Sound: Hideaki Takahashi
"Resonating Spheres – Shimogamo Shrine" features spheres of light floating in the space within the tower gate of Shimogamo Shrine. The spheres are autonomous, shining brightly and then fading, behaving as if they are breathing slowly. When they are struck by something, such as a person hitting them or colliding with something, the color of their light changes and a tone specific to that color resonates. The surrounding spheres also respond, changing to the same light color and emitting the same tone, and the surrounding spheres continue to respond one after another. The light of the trees near the sphere responds in the same way, and beyond the tower gate, the light of the trees on the approach to the shrine also responds, changing light color and emitting a tone. Beyond the tower gate, this work makes you more aware than usual of the presence of other people and animals in the same space.
