This exhibition features approximately 300 koinobori (carp streamers) designed by leading Japanese textile designer Reiko Sudo and members of her textile manufacturer, Nuno, dynamically swimming throughout the exhibition space.
Sudo collaborated with French exhibition designer Adrien Gardère on this installation, inspired by traditional Japanese events, and presented it at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. in 2008 and at the Guimet Museum in Paris in 2014. For this new version, which uses the National Art Center, Tokyo's largest exhibition room (2,000 square meters, ceiling height 8 meters), Sudo also joins Seiichi Saito, known for his work with Rhizomatiks, marking their first collaboration in Japan.

A hands-on experience corner is also available for anyone to participate in. A free experience corner is located within the venue, where you can easily enjoy making koinobori using a worksheet. There will also be a corner where you can actually handle the fabric used in the koinobori and learn about their titles and origins.
In addition, a special talk by Sudo and Saito will be held from 2pm to 3:30pm on May 13th. On April 29th, Sudo will be the instructor for a workshop where participants can freely combine their favorite colors and patterns from a colorful selection of fabrics to make their own one-of-a-kind mini carp streamers. The program will be held twice, with the first session from 1pm to 2:15pm and the second from 2:45pm to 4pm.
