Goldwin's first flagship store in the Kansai area, "Goldwin Kyoto," will open in Kyoto City on May 23, 2025.

The store was designed by the New Materials Research Laboratory, led by Hiroshi Sugimoto and Tomoyuki Sakakida. The store will offer products that embody Goldwin's attention to detail, embodied in functional beauty that combines traditional Japanese aesthetics with timeless beauty. The store will also carry the full collection from "Goldwin 0," an experimental platform designed to unlock the brand's potential.
■ "Goldwin Kyoto" spatial concept (from the New Materials Research Institute)
The beauty of nature's forms that are born over a long period of time, the "strata" that have been piled up over the ages, are weathered by the wind, and natural objects appear on the earth, revealing themselves to us. Meanwhile, Goldwin's products have achieved functional beauty based on long experience and a solid track record. They are built on layers of knowledge and insight, or "layers of knowledge." We have adopted the concept of "accumulation of 'chi'", where layers of "earth" or "knowledge" are piled up, and we weave the space together with attractive materials.

The space is designed to allow the wind to flow straight towards the courtyard, and by paving the floor from the front garden to the courtyard with stones, it creates a sense of continuity, inviting customers in from outside. A large granite vessel has been placed in the storefront as a symbolic vessel to receive all the things carried by the wind. In the salon, a willow-patterned carpet is laid on the floor, hand-tufted and woven using kasuri-dyed yarn with a gradation that creates the appearance of color fluctuations.

Furthermore, the flexible yet robust nature of paulownia and bamboo is used for the walls and fittings to express the brand's rapid growth, while the fixtures feature a design motif of skis, which symbolize the brand's origins. To express weathering over time, beautiful natural stones such as Hidome River stone and Kiso stone are used in the front garden and courtyard. We aimed to create a garden that allows visitors to feel the cycle of nature brought about by the wind, as various seeds that fly in from outside take root naturally in the shade of the landscape stones and masonry, sprout, and change. At the Kyoto store, the first of its kind in Japan, run by the New Materials Research Institute, a symphony of natural materials and products gently connects the interior and exterior along with the gentle breeze that blows through the space.
■ Limited-edition products in collaboration with "Footwear Sekizuka" where Japanese tradition meets modern functionality
Goldwin's philosophy of "connecting nature and the city" has come together with the handmade footwear of "Footwear Sekizuka," located in Iwakura, Kyoto, to create a special pair of shoes where Japanese tradition meets modern functionality.

The design is based on a classic model developed by footwear craftsman Sekizuka, and is reimagined to blend seamlessly into modern lifestyles while respecting Japan's ancient footwear culture. The base is made of high-quality natural leather, and the sole is equipped with Vibram Sole, a material used in hiking boots, boasting excellent grip and durability. Furthermore, the thong is made from recycled fabric left over from the apparel production process, achieving both environmental friendliness and functionality, while also gently enveloping the foot. This pair of shoes, designed with a focus on both comfort and style, combines functionality for everyday life with a sense of beauty that is evident in every detail.
