RANGER
On July 8, 1952, the North Greenland Expedition set out from Deptford, London, on the River Thames, for Greenland on a two-year scientific mission to study the ice sheet. On the wrists of the British scientists and naval personnel were Tudor's newly completed Oyster Prince watches, the first to feature both automatic winding and water resistance. Tudor's request for the expedition's detailed glaciological and seismological surveys at multiple sites was: They asked us to collect performance data for 30 Oyster Prince watches worn in extreme cold conditions. Combining cutting-edge watchmaking with historic aesthetics, the latest Ranger embodies the adventurous spirit of the pioneering Arctic explorers.
THE RANGER SAGA

The Ranger name first appeared in Tudor's history long before the British North Greenland Expedition. While the Tudor watches worn by expedition members from 1952 to 1954 bore different names, it is the subsequent Ranger models that have perpetuated the concept of the expedition watch as a robust, practical, and reasonably priced tool that Tudor pioneered during this period. The origins of the Tudor Ranger date back to 1929. Just three years after the trademark registration of "The TUDOR," Hans Wilsdorf registered "Ranger." At the time, the name did not refer to a specific model, but rather to add an adventurous element to Tudor watches. The design we now recognize as the Ranger did not emerge until the 1960s, and is recognizable for its generously luminous Arabic numerals at 3 (only on models without a date display), 6, 9, and 12, as well as its distinctively designed hands. Throughout its history, the Ranger has seen a wide variety of variations, ranging from models with and without a date display, automatic or manual winding, and dials adorned with the Tudor rose or shield. As early as 1973, a version with an integrated bracelet, known as the "Ranger II," was introduced.
THE SPIRIT OF A TOOL WATCH

While adhering to its historically established design standards, including a dial featuring Arabic numeral hour markers at 3, 6, 9 and 12, the new Ranger incorporates cutting-edge technology such as a high-performance manufacture calibre and Tudor's exclusive "T-fit" quick-adjust clasp. A robust, practical and accessible tool watch, this model continues the tradition of exploration watches that began with the Oyster Prince carried by the North Greenland Expedition. Symbolizing this practical heritage, the Ranger's 39mm case and bracelet feature a matte satin finish, embodying the pure spirit of the "tool watch." However, certain elements, such as the bezel edges, are polished to accentuate the curves of the case. Turning to the dial, you'll also notice details heavily influenced by history. The beige luminescent hour markers contrast with the grained matte black dial and echo the tone of the Tudor logo. The rounded hour hand and angular second hand, both arrow-shaped, are also unique to the Ranger. The second hand features a new burgundy tip.
MANUFACTURE CALIBRE MT5402
The Ranger is powered by the Manufacture Caliber MT5402. Robust, durable, reliable, and precise, this movement features a variable-inertia balance supported by a traversing bridge fixed at two points. It also features a non-magnetic silicon balance spring, and the MT5402 is Swiss-certified as a chronometer. While this certification requires a movement deviation of -4 to +6 seconds per day, Tudor has gone even further, achieving a precision deviation of -2 to +4 seconds per day in assembled condition. Another notable feature is the power reserve of approximately 70 hours, meaning you can take your watch off on Friday night and put it back on Monday morning without having to rewind it.

Jacquard, Steel or Hybrid Bracelet
Tudor has been a pioneer in this field ever since it introduced fabric straps in 2010. Julien Faure, a family-run company in Saint-Étienne, France, has been producing fabric straps on 19th-century looms for over 150 years, offering a unique combination of quality and comfort. The partnership, which began in 2010 when the Heritage Chrono was first introduced with a fabric strap, has cultivated exceptional expertise and celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2020. The Ranger is available with an olive green fabric strap featuring two red and one beige stripes. This model is also available with a brushed steel bracelet featuring a self-adjustable "T-fit" quick-adjust clasp. The simple, tool-free operation allows the wearer to adjust the length in five 8mm increments. Another option is a black leather and natural rubber hybrid strap with a folding clasp. The leather is embossed with a fabric-like texture and features beige topstitching.
FIELD TESTING

The North Greenland Expedition was arguably a game-changer for Tudor and its tool watches. It represented Tudor's first long-term testing in harsh, real-world conditions. Expedition members monitored the accuracy of their Oyster Prince watches against the hourly BBC signal, recording any variations in their timekeeping in a dedicated notebook. The watches prepared for the project were lubricated with special "Arctic" lubricants to accommodate the expected temperatures, and also had extensions that allowed them to be worn over warm clothing. One of the expedition members wrote a letter to Tudor after returning from Greenland: The letter, preserved in the archives, notes that the watch he carried "maintained astonishing accuracy" and "never required manual winding." This method, known as "destructive testing," involved experts evaluating watches in extreme conditions, perfectly aligned with the theme of Tudor's first major advertising campaign, launched in 1952. It goes without saying that this approach led to the development and release of Tudor's tool watches. This concept of robustness has always remained central to Tudor's philosophy, as evidenced by subsequent decades of branding, highlighting the brand's emphasis on technical performance under difficult conditions over aesthetics and prestige. A Tudor catalog from the early 1970s features a lumberjack wearing a Ranger, who says he "selected his watch with the same care as he would his chainsaw."
THE TUDOR GUARANTEE
Since the brand was founded by Hans Wilsdorf in 1926, TUDOR's vision for creating the perfect watch has remained unchanged: the never-ending pursuit of robustness, durability and precision. Thanks to its experience and accumulated know-how in creating exceptional quality, TUDOR offers a 5-year international warranty on all its products.
