ROYAL ASSCHER, a diamond jeweler founded in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1854, will introduce the brand's connection with the British Royal Family and the new content "My Diamond Styling," which began distribution on June 8, 2022. The first episode features Mizuho Nishiguchi, a British royal family expert. She will discuss the bond between the British Royal Family and ROYAL ASSCHER and share the appeal of diamonds that sparkle in everyday styling. From June 2 to 4, 2022, the "Platinum Jubilee," a grand celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's 70th anniversary on the throne, was held in the UK. This marks the first time in history that a British monarch has celebrated 70 years on the throne. A variety of events were held, from the "Trooping the Colour" parade celebrating the Queen's official birthday on the first day, the 2nd, to the "Platinum Jubilee Pageant" held in central London on the final day, and the huge number of visitors from around the world, as well as British citizens, came to celebrate, demonstrating the Queen's immense popularity.

Queen Elizabeth ascended to the throne in 1952. Her father, King George VI, passed away, and 16 months later, on June 2, 1953, her coronation took place at Westminster Abbey. Queen Elizabeth was just 27 years old. It was a day of splendid ceremony, celebrated by people all over the world. It also marked the beginning of a monarchy boasting a historic reign.

The Cullinan, the world's largest rough diamond, and the British Royal Family
The scepter, one of the important symbols of the monarch's power, justice, and reign, is placed in the Queen's right hand during the coronation ceremony. The British Imperial State Crown, worn at the end of the coronation ceremony and during the parade, also has a strong connection to Royal Asscher, a prestigious diamond jeweler founded in Amsterdam, Netherlands, which has twice been awarded the title "Royal" by the Dutch Royal Family.

In 1905, the world's largest rough diamond, the Cullinan (3,106 ct), was discovered in South Africa and presented to King Edward VII of the United Kingdom. Joseph Asscher, known as the world's foremost diamond cutter at the time, was entrusted with the task of cutting the Cullinan, and he accomplished the feat. The Cullinan was transformed into nine large diamonds and several smaller ones. The largest, Cullinan I, became the British Royal Scepter, and the second largest, Cullinan II, became part of the Imperial State Crown. These are the crown and scepter worn by Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation. The crown, adorned with gold, silver, approximately 3,000 diamonds, 270 pearls, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds, as well as the 317.40 ct. diamond Cullinan II at its center, weighs 1 kg. In an interview with the BBC, Queen Elizabeth said, "When I speak wearing this, I have to look up at my writing. If I look down, I'll break my neck."

The Cullinan Granny's Tips and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

In 1958, 50 years after the cutting of the Cullinan, Queen Elizabeth visited the Dutch firm Asscher. That day, shining on the left side of Her Majesty's chest was a brooch known as "Granny's Tips," adorned with the Cullinan III (94.40 ct) and Cullinan IV (63.60 ct). When Her Majesty met Louis Asscher, the only surviving of the Asscher brothers who cut the Cullinan, she noticed that he had become almost blind, so she removed the brooch and let him touch it.

"The Evolving Diamond Cutters" Exhibition to open at Ginza Mitsukoshi from June 15, 2022
The world's largest rough diamond, the Cullinan, was successfully cut in 1908. At the time, cutting and polishing was done entirely by hand using traditional techniques. However, a century later, cutting and polishing have evolved to utilize the latest technology, including computers and lasers. This special exhibition will feature a unique collection of valuable tools and documents unique to Royal Asscher, which has been involved in cutting and polishing for over 160 years. These include early tools such as a 100x magnifying glass and hammer custom-made for cutting the Cullinan, and a blade that broke during the Cullinan cut due to its extreme hardness, as well as the latest cutting and polishing techniques, including computer-generated simulation images for efficient cutting.

Also on display will be a silver cup engraved with the names of the four people who contributed to the success of the Cullinan cut, which was presented to the Asscher family by Edward VII, then King of England, after he was so impressed by the success of the Cullinan cut, and a valuable video introducing the diamond cutting techniques of Royal Asscher.
