Kerorin Baby, a company that makes children's clothing from tenugui cloth and sells it online, has opened a limited-time shop on the sixth floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building's Tasteful Style section. It will be open until July 29th. The brand is an online store with the concept of "a warm, handmade shop that revives tenugui, a material that originated and continues to be loved in Japan, as 'clothing that lives in everyday life.'" This time, on the children's clothing floor of the store, they will be selling tenugui shirts (sizes 80cm to 130cm, from 4,630 yen), tenugui dresses (80cm to 130cm, from 5,556 yen), dresses (free size, 6,482 yen), as well as hats (from 3,241 yen) and bibs (from 1,389 yen). The patterns include summery designs such as goldfish and watermelons, as well as dinosaurs and flowers.
During the event, the venue will be hosting an event titled "Make Your Own Stamp Handkerchief," where 12 stamps representing the sea and sky will be available and participants will be able to stamp their favorite stamp onto a blue handkerchief to create their own original handkerchief (July 26th and 27th from 11:00 to 17:00, participation fee 926 yen).
Kerorin Baby is an online shop opened by Yadowa Tomomi in 2008, and on her website she writes, "Tenugui clothing has been a part of my life since I was a child. It was a family tradition in my home every summer to wear the clothes sewn by my grandmother and mother. I want more people to know that there are warm tenugui clothing items that quickly absorb sweat and allow the breeze to pass through."
The buyer in charge said, "In recent years, there has been a growing trend towards wearing traditional Japanese clothing, including yukata and jinbei, in the summer. We believe that the trend of seeking coolness in Japanese culture will continue in the future, and this summer we would like to spread the word so that children's clothing made from tenugui material is also an option. Tenugui fabric absorbs sweat well and dries quickly, giving it a clean look and making it a great choice for summer. We also use Tokuokaji, which is said to be the highest quality tenugui fabric. We also have matching parent-child outfits available, so we hope you will deepen your bond."
