Yoshikazu Yamagata, designer of writtenafterwards, will be holding the "written by by Sales Exhibition," an event themed around the value and buying and selling of things, at the Center Park/TOKYO Kaihoku on the second floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building. The venue will offer an advance sale of his new line, "written by," which will launch this season. The exhibition runs until August 12th.
The purpose of the exhibition is to return to the origins of "buying and selling" and reexamine the essence and transformation of value through the buying and selling of fashion, including forms such as barter and flea markets, from the perspectives of the past, present, and future. "This time, we focused on money, thinking seriously about buying and selling, sometimes with humor," says Yamagata. Each timeline will be introduced separately for different periods. The past edition will run until July 29th, the present edition will run from July 30th to August 5th, and the future edition will run from August 6th to 12th.
The highlight of this exhibition is the "0 Yen Banknote Stole" (33,000 yen). The god of "happiness = clothing" sits in the center of the stole. The same design will also be sold in framed silkscreen prints (800,000 yen) and unframed versions (150,000 yen). The "Exploring the origins of buying and selling to create new value by by T-shirt" (9,800 yen) and the "YUKICH T-shirt" (15,800 yen), hand-drawn with a Fukuzawa Yukichi motif, are exclusive to the store. The T-shirt (12,800 yen) featuring an illustration inspired by Karl Marx, author of the economic theory book "Das Kapital," and the "0 Yen Banknote Memo Pad" (1,500 yen) will be available for pre-sale at the store.
Collaboration products between Littleby and other brands will also be on sale at the venue. The exhibition will feature a scarf (25,000 yen) in collaboration with Mao Usami, a designer who graduated with honors from Central Saint Martins art school and is garnering attention from around the world, as well as souvenir goods by KLOKA, featuring a blend of East and West, past and present, and Japanese and Western styles, including keychains (from 3,000 yen), brooches (from 2,800 yen), earrings (from 4,000 yen), and tote bags (8,500 yen and 16,500 yen). The exhibition will also feature an exhibition of costumes worn by Nanase Nishino of the female idol group Nogizaka 46, whose bonus footage for the group's ninth single, "Natsu no Free & Easy," was fashion-directed by Yamagata. The buyer in charge commented, "The event's name, 'written by by Sales Exhibition,' contains the meanings of 'shop,' 'buying and selling,' and 'bye-bye.' You encounter something in a store, buy it, and then one day that item is forgotten, time passes, and its value is reawakened. In this way, items go around and around in a cycle. Yamagata's interpretation of buying and selling is precisely this 'reincarnation.' It makes you reconsider the meaning of buying and selling." During the event, Yamagata will be visiting the same venue and will be joined by guest designer Kentaro Tamai of ASEEDONCLOUD for a talk event (July 27, 3:00 PM) about the history of writtenafterwards and his thoughts on fashion, as well as a talk event (August 3, 3:00 PM) about buying and selling and his own views on fashion.
