To coincide with the launch of its new brand in Japan, tenugui specialty store Kamawanu will open a pop-up shop in the West Park section on the 5th floor of the main building of the Isetan Shinjuku store. The event will run from April 1st to 15th. The new brand, BY KAMAWANU, is an international brand launched by tenugui specialty store Kamawanu. The scarf collection, SCARF BY KAMAWANU, designed by Copenhagen-based Thomas Lykke, will be available overseas this spring, and this store will be the first to offer it in Japan. The collection, unveiled at Ambiente 2014, the world's largest consumer goods trade fair held in Frankfurt, Germany in February 2014, features 10 varieties in 6 designs. The designs utilize the wide range of Japanese indigo blue, incorporating traditional Japanese patterns and geometric designs familiar worldwide. A diamond pattern was added to the collection for the launch in Japan. The design combines the hemp leaf motif with diamonds, a universally recognized lucky charm. Based on indigo blue, the collection utilizes a dyeing technique called "chusen," a method passed down since the Meiji era. Natural conditions, such as the temperature and humidity on the day of dyeing, can affect the color and appearance of each piece, resulting in a unique look. This dyeing method also eliminates the need for a front and back, allowing for reversible use. Made from 100% cotton, just like tenugui towels, the fabric develops a pleasant texture over time. Following the store's launch, a traveling exhibition will be held at the Utensils store in Kamawanu Asakusa. A bold installation will utilize the entire venue, and the entire collection will be available for purchase.
