Nike has designated March 26th as "AIR MAX DAY," commemorating the release date of the Air Max 1 in 1987. The company has released a video on YouTube titled "TINKER'S DESK," looking back at past masterpieces.
In this video, a shoe floating in the air, accompanied by bubbles reminiscent of air cushions, dynamically transforms into a past Air Max series. It's as if we're going back in time, and at the end, the Air Max 1 disappears into the air, leaving its design drawing on a desk. The following are the masterpieces from the series that Nike looks back on along with this video. The first model in the series, the Air Max 1, featured cutouts on the side of the sole, exposing the Air-Sole unit within. This was a visible expression of the cushioning innovation. Inspired by Paris's unorthodox architecture, designer Tinker Hatfield commented, "The Pompidou Center in Paris was a building that had its original glass walls turned inward, almost like an inverted structure. I thought that if I used the technology used in that building to expose the Air, I could create a shoe unlike any other." Meanwhile, the third model in the series, the Air Max 90, features a large Air cushion and a flowing form. The panel angles and color divisions pursue functionality while also expressing the runner's state of mind. A vibrant red called Infrared emphasizes the Air cushion's presence. The Air Max 180 followed, revealing the Air-Sole 180 degrees from the outsole to the midsole. Furthermore, the Air Max 93 featured a 270-degree spread of visible Air, while the Air Max 95 used two units to expose the Air-sole in the forefoot, further elevating the design. The Air Max 97 marked the first time the series featured full-length Max Air. The Air Max 360, which followed, achieved the series' goal of "walking on air," a goal that had been pursued throughout the history of visible Air. Furthermore, throughout this history, the Air Max's performance as a performance shoe has further evolved. The Air Max 2015 epitomizes this. Its superior flexibility and comfort surpass those of the Air Max cushioning that debuted in 2013. The new seamless mesh upper works in conjunction with Flywire technology to provide a snug fit. The largest Air-sole in the series delivers a bouncy ride and smooth running.
