Jun and Nike open new shop in Shibuya, aiming to popularize "athleisure," the trend of wearing sportswear at work and on the town, in Japan

Sep 21, 2015

On September 19th, Jun Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Susumu Sasaki), in collaboration with Nike, opened a flagship store in Shibuya for "NERGY," a new business concept that combines fashion and sports.
What's new about the store? It focuses on the increasingly popular "athleisure" trend. "Athleisure" is a style that has recently become popular, especially among American women, in which sportswear is worn daily both in the city and at the office. NERGY offers a variety of apparel designed to help people easily incorporate this style, as well as drinks and bars that help build a sporty physique and skincare items that promote healthy, athletic skin. The store targets modern Japanese women, and aims to help more women radiate not only their appearance but also their inner self through its customers.
By the way, "NERGY" is a portmanteau of the words "energy" and "synergy." "We want customers to feel a powerful effect, as if multiple positive factors are overlapping, when they visit our store," said President Sasaki, who spoke at a preview held at the store on September 17, two days before the opening. "We designed the interior to be simple but not too impersonal, so that both sports enthusiasts and beginners would feel at home. We carefully selected the items we carry for comfort and ease of use." In particular, the store stocks many 100% polyester items, which dry quickly and are easy to wash. He also said that he exercises twice a week, "I run or go to the gym before work. Since I started exercising, I've been able to get more oxygen into my brain, which has probably increased my motivation for work." Models Angelica Michibata and Ako Mizuki also appeared at the preview. After trying on the clothing sold at Nergy, the two expressed their delight, saying, "The vivid colors lift my spirits" (Michibata) and "I feel like I could walk around town wearing this without feeling out of place" (Mizuki). Michibata added excitedly, "It was hard to resist the urge to shop from the moment I came to the store today," and smiled, "I often exercise at Yoyogi Park, so I'd like to stop by here from now on." To commemorate the store's opening, Nergy is selling a starter kit containing a "NIKE sports bra + NIKE sports tights + Nergy original logo hoodie." Purchasers of this kit will receive priority access to various training sessions offered at the "NIKE+TOKYO STUDIO" on the basement floor of the Nergy Shibuya store. Furthermore, Nergy's second large-scale store, measuring 330 square meters, is scheduled to open at LaLaport EXPOCITY on November 19th.
