The Shinshoji Zen and Garden Museum (91 Kamiyamaminami, Numakuma-cho, Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture) will open on September 11th in the mountains of Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture.
The Shinshoji Zen and Garden Museum offers visitors the opportunity to stroll through the Zen gardens that stretch across the vast grounds of Tenshinzan Shinshoji Temple, nestled in the city's mountains, and to appreciate the Zen paintings and calligraphy on display in the temple buildings and teahouses. One of the highlights is the art pavilion, "Koutei," designed by SANDWICH's Kohei Nawa. The boat-shaped building, featuring traditional thatched roofing and softly wrapped in wood, features a sleek design.
Additionally, the various halls on the temple grounds will feature displays of 20 to 30 pieces from the 1,500-piece Zen calligraphy and painting collection, with a focus on calligraphy by Hakuin, who expressed Zen in innovative and unique ways during the Edo period. Furthermore, at the temple office, Shodo, there are exhibits and related books, merchandise and souvenirs for sale, and visitors can also experience Zen meditation, copying sutras and eating a traditional monk's meal.
