On June 18th, Warehouse Terrada will open the ARCHI-DEPOT Museum (1st floor, Warehouse Terrada Head Office Building, 2-6-10 Higashi-Shinagawa, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo) in Tennozu Isle, Tokyo, the only museum in Japan dedicated to architectural models. The museum, with approximately 100 shelves lining a spacious 450-square-meter space with a 5.2-meter ceiling, is an exhibition and preservation facility specializing in architectural models. Based on the concept of "exhibiting the storage facility itself," the museum offers a unique viewing experience, allowing visitors to browse a variety of models while weaving between the shelves. The shelves display architectural models from studies to completed models by Japanese architects and design firms active both in Japan and overseas. Each shelf features a panel listing the exhibitor's name and a QR code. Scanning the QR code with a tablet or smartphone allows visitors to view information about the exhibitor's activities, completed photos of the models, and blueprints. In addition to making architectural models available to the general public, the museum also functions as a dedicated storage, preservation, and restoration facility for models. Other projects include proactively disseminating information to students, professionals, and tourists interested in architecture around the world, and actively collaborating with overseas cultural institutions to plan exhibitions overseas to promote architectural culture.
The lineup of exhibitors includes Jun Aoki & Associates, Hitoshi Abe Atelier, Atsushi Kitagawara Architecture and Urban Design Institute, Kengo Kuma & Associates, Klein Dytham Architects, Hisao Kayama Architect & Associates, SANDWICH, Coelacanth and Associates, Manabu Chiba Architects, Torafu Architects, Nikken Sekkei Ltd., Shigeru Ban Architects, Tetsuo Furuichi Urban Architecture Institute, MOUNT FUJI ARCHITECTS STUDIO + Masahiro Harada Laboratory, Department of Architecture, Shibaura Institute of Technology, Riken Yamamoto Design & Factory, and Wonderwall(R).
