A colorful rock formation has been unveiled in the heart of the Las Vegas, Nevada, desert, creating a buzz. Seven towering rock formations, each clad in a different fluorescent color, stand out even more strikingly against the barren desert landscape. Each rock tower is 9 to 10 meters tall, and the work took an astonishing five years to create. Titled "Seven Magic Mountains," the work is the work of world-renowned Swiss-born, New York-based artist Ugo Rondinone. The piece expresses Ugo's long-standing interest in natural phenomena and their transformation through art. The work will be on view for two years, beginning May 2nd. It's estimated that approximately 160 million cars will pass by during that time, making it a landmark piece of land art history. Hugo commented, "Seven Magic Mountains will bring out the cohesion and continuity that exists between humans and nature, manmade and natural, and past and present."
The project was produced in collaboration with the non-profit organization Art Production Fund and the Nevada Museum of Art. The official website features photos and videos of the production process, allowing viewers to see in detail the size and vivid colors of the rocks.
