Palm Angels, the label created by Francesco Ragazzi, presented its Fall/Winter 2017-18 collection in Milan on January 16th. The brand was launched two years ago and had shown its collections in Paris for the past two seasons, but this season it has moved its venue to Milan.
Ragazzi also handles art direction for Moncler, and the brand's production background is the same Italian company as Marcelo Burlon County of Milan and Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh. Marcelo and Virgil Abloh also attended the collection to celebrate the brand's Milan men's debut. The brand's name, inspired by a photobook of LA skate culture by Ragazzi himself, is a reference to the brand's Venice Beach and Malibu Beach aesthetic, with gold and shiny materials accenting the collection's luxury streetwear aesthetic. This season, the brand's focus is on "Palm Angels" logo apparel. Taking cues from British Jamaican styles, such as Bob Marley, the brand offers American sportswear with Milanese quality. Flared pants and fully zipped-up clothing create a gangster-inspired look, with individual pieces evoking ragtag and old-school hip-hop styles. The unconventional wardrobe, including oversized, loose wool coats, lightweight Air Force jackets, tracksuit-style jacket suits, and pinstripe double-breasted suits, clearly deviates from the rules, heralding the beginning of a new movement in Milan's streetwear, along with the crowds who flocked to the show.
