MIHARA YASUHIRO has opened a pop-up store on the third floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku. It's part of the first anniversary of the floor's remodel. The store will run until December 17th.
The theme of MIHARA YASUHIRO's 2014 Spring/Summer collection, unveiled in Paris, is "Phoenix." Designer Yasuhiro Mihara was inspired by "The Phoenix," a popular work by Tezuka Osamu, Japan's greatest manga artist, and this collaboration was the catalyst for the creation of this collection. The façade features a large Phoenix design on a golden wall, and the store also displays posters and replicas of original drawings from the original film releases of Tezuka's works, further expressing the worldview of Tezuka's work through its décor.
The story of Tezuka's work, "The Phoenix," tells the story of a bird that watches over the mistakes humans make, waiting for the day when humans will realize their mistakes and create a better world. In response to the problems Japan has faced since the Great East Japan Earthquake, Mihara's wish is to "swiftly move toward a brighter future and for the world to move in a slightly better direction," and he uses the firebird as his symbol for this collection. All items available in stores this time will be sold exclusively at Isetan.
In addition to the firebird-themed apparel, the collection also includes a smartphone case (7,140 yen), clutch bag (19,950 yen), slip-on shoes (24,150 yen), and canvas tote bag (3,360 yen) featuring a camouflage firebird design.
"Manga and graphics are trending these days, and this collaboration perfectly matches that. The brand started with a men's line, so you can really feel the commitment to craftsmanship. The items are priced more reasonably than regular items, so we hope people will consider them as Christmas gifts this year," says the buyer in charge.
