A collaborative exhibition between Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi and manga artist Takehiko Inoue, known for "Slam Dunk" and "Vagabond," titled "Special Exhibition: Gaudi x Takehiko Inoue—Synchronized Sources of Creativity," will be held at the Mori Arts Center Gallery in Roppongi from July 12 to September 7. Gaudi was active mainly in Barcelona from the 19th to 20th centuries. He left behind numerous unique works, including the Sagrada Familia, whose construction began in 1882 and continues to this day, as well as Park Güell and Casa Mila. Supervised by the Polytechnic University of Cartago, Spain, this exhibition will feature approximately 110 valuable materials, including drawings, blueprints, models, and furniture, that reflect on Gaudi's achievements.
In addition, Inoue Takehiko, who traveled to Barcelona to seek Gaudi as a role model and has also been appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the "400th Anniversary of Japan-Spain Relations Project," will use his keen powers of observation and creativity to create a new portrayal of "Gaudi the Man." In 2011, he published "PEPITA: Inoue Takehiko MEETS Gaudi" (Nikkei BP).
Over the next year, the exhibition will travel to 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum, Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, and Sendai (venue to be announced at a later date).
