Art Fair Tokyo 2014, Japan's largest art fair, will be held for the 9th time this year in the Exhibition Hall on the second basement floor of the Tokyo International Forum in March.
Last year's event drew attention as it was held in conjunction with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo (Tokyo Collection) and Tokyo Runway, but this year, there are more galleries and exhibitions featuring contemporary art than last time. As of December 16th, 145 galleries are scheduled to exhibit.
The "TOKYO LIMITED" section, which features contemporary applied art such as jewelry and objects, will feature exhibits by gallery C.A.J., Gallery Deux Poissons, and Tajimi City Cultural Workshop Gallery Voice. The "PROJECTS" section, featuring trending galleries, will feature exhibits from Inga Gallery (Tel Aviv) and Snow Contemporary (Tokyo), while the "DISCOVER ASIA" section, showcasing cutting-edge contemporary art in Asia, will feature Gallery Scape/Gallery EM (Seoul), TKG+/Project Fulfill Art Space (Taipei), and GALLERY EXIT (Hong Kong). Additionally, the newly established "G-plus" section, where leading Japanese contemporary art galleries will develop projects, will feature Tomio Koyama Gallery, Taronas, and Mizuma Art Gallery. Matohu, representing the fashion world, will also be exhibiting. The project partner booths will also be attracting attention. In addition to the art fair exhibitions, "COVERED TOKYO," a joint project by four young galleries, will be held at the Park Hotel Tokyo on the evening of March 7th, combining exhibitions with performances and live music. There will also be video presentations of award-winning works from the 17th Japan Media Arts Festival and recent award-winning works, as well as talk events with award-winning artists. At the Gentosha booth, original illustrations from the picture book "Music Box World" by comedian King Kong Nishino Akihiro of Yoshimoto Creative Agency will be on display.
