The Italian luxury leather brand Valextra is hosting a Valentine's Day-themed pop-up event on the first floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Men's Building from January 29th through February 14th.
The event will feature a larger-than-usual selection of leather goods perfect for Valentine's Day gifts. In addition to small leather items such as wallets, coin purses, business card holders, iPhone cases, and iPad cases, the lineup also includes wrist bags and clutch bags. In addition, a wide variety of over 20 colors, including women's shoulder bags, makes it a versatile selection for both men and women. During the event, a Valentine's Day engraving service with initials and a heart motif is also available.
Valextra was founded in Milan, Italy in 1937 by Giovanni Fontana. The brand name is a combination of "Valigeria," meaning luggage in Italian, and "extra," meaning the finest. In 1954, the brand won the prestigious Italian design award, the Compasso d'Oro. In the 1970s, it was added to the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
From the 1960s to the 1970s, as travel by sea gave way to air travel, it was favored by many celebrities known as jet-setters. It is also known to have been a favorite of the Agnelli family, the founders of Fiat, Italy's renowned film director Luchino Visconti, and sobrano singer Maria Callas.
