"Hana Hiraku" was created by artist Genichiro Inokuma in 1950 as a design for Mitsukoshi's wrapping paper. The innovative design, featuring soft, rounded abstract shapes in Schiaparelli red, is Mitsukoshi's most iconic motif, beloved to this day as the first wrapping paper for a Japanese department store. The iconic "Hana Hiraku" motif was chosen as the motif to celebrate Mitsukoshi's 350th anniversary, and the worldview of "Hana Hiraku," which has remained modern and cutting-edge since its launch in 1950, is specially expressed in black.

A bag featuring the "Hana Hiraku" motif is crafted from Y's signature raw black gabardine fabric. An asymmetrical cut-and-sew features the "Hana Hiraku" stone motif, expressed using decoupage-like paper printing techniques and transfer printing. Organic, amorphous black pearl jewelry echoes the shape of "Hana Hiraku." These exceptional items incorporate iconic motifs into a world of black, vividly expressing "Hana Hiraku" in Y's Black. It will be available for purchase at a pop-up store open for a limited time from Wednesday, April 12th to Tuesday, April 25th, 2023, at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store.

This bag features the "Hana Hiraku" motif, crafted from Y's signature black gabardine fabric. The "Hana Hiraku" stone and line motifs, crafted from raw gabardine, are attached by being hammered onto the leather, and the contrast between the textures of the leather and gabardine creates a unique sense of depth. In addition to the handbag version shown in the photo, a shoulder bag version with a long strap is also available. The innovative shape of "Hana-Hiraku" is expressed with a black texture, echoing creativity.

The stone motif from "Hana Hiraku" is expressed using a decoupage-like paper printing technique. This is a printing technique that was also used in Y's 2023 Spring/Summer collection, but by making the motif stand out clearly, the texture of the paper is relatively clear in the finished product, adding a unique feel. Two styles of cut and sew are available.

Y's
Y's was the first brand created by Yohji Yamamoto in 1972, and it also represents Yamamoto's thoughts and philosophy on clothing creation.

Its origins lie in the concept of women wearing men's clothing, and the creation of clothing for independent women with timeless values. Functional and elegant everyday wear. Within its own unique category, Y's creations are shaped by universal values and unique patternmaking. The clothing is crafted with a focus on cutting and silhouette, utilizing the texture of the material, and emphasizing the air, volume, and balance between the wearer's body and the clothing.

The current atelier team, which inherits this philosophy, expresses the brand's identity and embodies the collection, which offers functional, high-quality ready-to-wear.
