A party celebrating the re-release of adidas Originals' iconic Stan Smith model after a two-year hiatus, "Stan Smith is Back," was held on January 29th at Creme de la Creme in Harajuku, Tokyo. The exterior walls of the venue were lit up in the brand's signature vibrant green, featuring the familiar logo featuring a portrait of tennis player Stan Smith and three-stripe graphics, creating a unique look for the brand. Graphical images featuring Stan Smith were also projected throughout the venue. A green Stan Smith signed by Stan Smith was displayed in the center of the venue. A dance performance using projection mapping by Daito Manabe of Rhizomatiks was also performed. A service was also offered, offering visitors the chance to have their face photos turned into Stan Smith-style graphics.
Thomas Sailer, Vice President of Adidas Japan, said, "We are thrilled to celebrate the long-awaited re-release of the Stan Smith. Public anticipation for the re-release was high, and the initial release almost sold out as soon as it hit the shelves. The re-release of the Stan Smith is one of our main projects this year. Next up, we hope you'll look forward to the release of the ZX running shoe, which debuted in the '80s. We're also planning a collaboration with British pop singer Rita Ora."
The Stan Smith, a classic icon of Adidas Originals, debuted as a tennis shoe in 1973. It has since gained popularity on the streets and is listed in the Guinness World Records as Adidas' best-selling shoe of all time.
