To commemorate the release of the documentary film "Why I Love Shoes" (distributed by Arcineterran), which explores the fascinating relationship between shoes and women, a collaborative project began on May 8th and runs until May 28th on the women's shoe floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku.
Footwear from five brands featured in the film - Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, Ferragamo, Robert Clergerie, and Pierre Hardy - is on display and for sale. These brands are rarely featured together in the same promotion, making this a rare opportunity.
The store is designed to resemble a movie theater lobby, and features DVD screenings and a selection of shoe-related books selected by book director Masataka Haba. This documentary, the first of its kind, traces the history of shoes from the Renaissance, from the over-50-centimeter high stiletto heel to the iconic stiletto heel, and features designers and celebrities from brands beloved by women who dream of wearing them at least once. Drawing on interviews with fashion historians, women's magazine editors, psychologists, sex experts, shoe fetishists, and everyday people, the film explores the mystery of shoe appeal from pop, psychological, sociological, historical, and even fetishistic perspectives. Directed by debutant Julie Benasra, this film was shot entirely by women in locations including Christian Louboutin's studio, Vogue's studio in New York, the Beta Shoe Museum in Toronto, and Ferragamo Palace in Florence. It's a film made by women, for women, and a celebration of women. The film opens nationwide on May 11th, including at Shinjuku Musashinokan.
