A world first! Hat designer Jacques Le Coult's photo exhibition to be held in Aoyama

May 22, 2013

A photography exhibition by Jacques le Corre, the founding designer of French hat brand JACQUES LE CORRE, will open on the 22nd at the Ohara School Hall in Aoyama, Tokyo. The exhibition focuses on artwork spanning a decade from 2000. This will be the designer's first solo exhibition in the world. Photographs of objects made from scrap materials found on Greek beaches will be featured. Also available for purchase are scarves and bags featuring images based on the photographs printed on leather and silk. Founded in 1985, Jacques le Corre shocked the fashion world with designs that transformed the traditionally ceremonial image of hats. He participated in accessory collections for Chloé, Paco Rabanne, Jil Sander, Donna Karan, and Kenzo. In 1999, he launched a full collection that included bags. Following Le Cord's passing in 2010, Omae Masumi, his business partner since the brand's founding, took over as his successor. In addition to classic items such as hats handmade by artisans at the southern French hat atelier "kobo," and the "LISBON" bag, which has the same shape but changes color and material over the course of several seasons, last year's fall/winter collection saw the addition of a stole featuring Le Cord's photographs.
