Yohji Yamamoto's book "Making Clothes: Beyond Fashion" is published

Yohji Yamamoto designer Yohji Yamamoto's book "Making Clothes: Beyond Fashion" (interviewer: Miya Chisen) will be released on May 25th. Published by Chuokoron-Shinsha. 1,575 yen.
Part 1 of the book features Yamamoto discussing his upbringing and current career as a world-renowned designer. Part 2 consists of 100 questions for Yamamoto. Yamamoto's answers to the questions reflect his unique philosophy, making this a book that can truly be described as a "Yamamoto Quotes Collection." The book also features numerous rare photographs of Yohji Yamamoto collections and Yamamoto's history.
Yamamoto was born in Tokyo in 1943. He founded Y's Co., Ltd. in 1972 and made his debut at Tokyo Collection in 1977 and Paris Collection in 1981. He has received high acclaim both at home and abroad, including the Purple Ribbon Medal in 2004 and the French Order of Arts and Letters, "Commandeur," in 2011. A large-scale retrospective was held in London in the same year, and events such as an archive show and the premiere of a documentary film were held in Berlin in April this year. Recently, she has also focused on her work as a painter, and in March this year she held an installation of paintings at the Isetan Shinjuku store.

Miya Chizumi was born in Tokyo in 1960. After graduating from International Christian University, she joined the Yomiuri Shimbun in 1985. For many years, she has covered issues such as fashion and working women. She also teaches at the University of California, Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
