October 7th is Radiohead's Thom Yorke's birthday.

Oct 7, 2013

Musician Thom Yorke was born on October 7, 1968, in Oxford, England. He is the lead singer and guitarist for the rock band Radiohead. He was born with a defect in his left eye and underwent five surgeries by the age of six. After his final surgery, he was forced to wear an eyepatch for a year. His father's work required him to move frequently, which sometimes led to teasing from his classmates. He received a Spanish guitar at age eight and formed his first band at age ten. He initially played guitar, but later took on the lead role in his second band. He attended a boarding school for boys outside Oxford, where he met bassist Colin Greenwood and guitarist Ed O'Brien, and the three formed a band. He was joined by senior students Phil Selway on drums and Colin's brother Johnny, who also played keyboards, and together they formed Radiohead's predecessor, "On a Friday." After graduating from high school, he enrolled at Essector University, graduating in 1991.

The band changed its name to Radiohead and made its major debut in 1992 with the EP "Drill." The following year, the single "Creep" became a huge hit, and their second album, "The Bends," solidified their popularity. Their third album, "OK Computer," reached number one in the UK charts, and their four subsequent albums have remained number one in the UK charts.

As a solo artist, he released the album "The Eraser" in 2006. In 2009, he formed "Atoms for Peace" with Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and others, and has been actively involved in European tours.

In addition, in July of this year, he withdrew his music from the music streaming service Spotify, citing concerns that its business model was not conducive to the development of young musicians. This stance has had a major impact on the next generation of streaming services, and has also put Thom Yorke's previous approach to digital distribution at the forefront of criticism.
