Kanebo Cosmetics, which has been facing a problem over vitiligo caused by its whitening cosmetics, announced on the 8th that it will gradually integrate its production and research divisions starting in January 2014. The integration of its sales division will also begin, and Kanebo will be reduced to a business company specializing in product strategy and other limited activities.
Kao acquired Kanebo in 2006. Since then, the company has achieved results, including cumulative cost synergies of over 10 billion yen, through the mutual use of research assets and production facilities, the integration of logistics and sales bases, joint distribution, behavioral purchasing, and personnel exchanges. However, out of respect for Kanebo's independence as a brand, the integration of research, production, and sales was postponed. However, in light of the recent vitiligo issue, Kao has shifted its policy to strengthen its involvement as the parent company. The Kao Group is strengthening its cosmetics business and is committed to ensuring safety and security.
