Alexander Wang will open its first flagship store in Japan on October 5th in Aoyama, Tokyo (Blue Sunk Point C2, 5-3-20 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo). Opening hours are 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The store will be jointly produced and operated by Alexander Wang and its Japanese retail partner, Club 21 Japan. A preview was held on the 4th. The store has a sales floor area of 345 square meters. It will be a first for the brand, with a three-story structure, with one basement floor and two aboveground floors. The store design has been updated based on the specifications of its global flagship stores. The facade uses black granite. LEDs are embedded in the window frames, which glow at night. The interior is dominated by white and black marble. Design details emphasize the flow of traffic connecting the multiple floors, and the fixtures and joints are unified with an overall linear design. The basement floor features Japan's largest men's section. It features the line's apparel collection and men's clothing from "T by ALEXANDER WANG," a brand based on the concept of "everyday wear like a T-shirt." The hanging shelves displaying the bags are a world first. Other items include the "Object Collection" lifestyle line, which currently only sells coasters (6,825 yen) and boxing gloves (16,800 yen), as well as women's shoes and bags. The stairwell leading to the first floor is covered in concrete panels stretching up to 5 meters, reaching all the way to the ceiling. Lights are installed in the panel joints, creating a soft glow. The first floor is home to the women's bag section. The white marble island fixtures in the center, clad in black steel, are being used for the first time in the Aoyama store. Bags line the walls, including a limited-edition three-way backpack (136,500 yen) with rose gold-colored metal parts like the zipper. This style is extremely popular; "It became popular in Japan and has since spread worldwide. We sold 400 units during the spring/summer season," says a Club 21 representative. Approximately 100 people are currently waiting for new arrivals.
Black marble is installed on the wall in front of the staircase leading to the second floor. Panels cut from the same material are glued together to create a seamless pattern. This detail is also used for the marble used on the staircase. The staircase walls are covered with concrete panels, just like the basement floor.
The second floor houses the women's wear collection and T by women's collection. Limited-edition items include a leather-trimmed neoprene skirt (37,800 yen) and a dress (50,400 yen). The hanger racks on which the clothing is hung feature LEDs embedded in the frames. The brand currently has shop-in-shops at Isetan Shinjuku, Dover Street Market Ginza, and Hankyu Umeda Main Store, as well as a handbag shop-in-shop at Ginza Mitsukoshi. This will be the brand's fifth directly operated store in Japan and its 16th worldwide.
