Rapidly growing brand Alexander Wang opens flagship store in Japan. 14 stores to open in Asia by the end of the year

Jul 2, 2013

Alexander Wang has announced that it will open its first flagship store in Japan in Aoyama, Tokyo, in October. The brand currently operates shop-in-shops at Isetan Shinjuku, Dover Street Market Ginza, and Hankyu Umeda Main Store, as well as a handbag shop-in-shop at Ginza Mitsukoshi. This will be the brand's fifth directly operated store in Japan. The store will be produced and operated jointly by Alexander Wang and its Japanese retail partner, Club 21 Japan. In addition to the brand's main line, the Aoyama store will carry the brand's "T by Alexander Wang" line of classic items such as T-shirts and jackets, as well as a full lineup of men's and women's items including bags and shoes. The "Object Collection," a lifestyle-focused line that debuted in 2012, will also be available, along with Aoyama-exclusive items. Like its other stores worldwide, the interior will follow a design inspired by Alexander Wang's New York studio and showroom.

According to Club 21, sales at the Isetan store, which opened in January 2012, achieved 175% year-on-year growth in June. Pre-fall cut-and-sew items, which meet actual demand, are selling well, and the classic silk series is also growing dramatically. Club 21 analyzes, "Sales have risen sharply this year compared to last year, even for the same products. This is evidence of growing brand awareness."

The brand is also actively doing business in Asia. By the end of the year, it plans to open 14 stores across Asia, including in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul, Bangkok, and Singapore. Since last year, the brand has also been focusing on its e-commerce site, forming a partnership with online boutique Yoox to sell in the Asia-Pacific region, including China and Hong Kong.
