Fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick was born on April 23, 1932, in Iowa, USA. He was the founder of the fashion brand "Halston." He passed away on March 26, 1990.
He began making hats and clothes at a young age. He moved to Chicago in 1952 and worked as a window dresser while attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He opened his own shop in 1957 and later worked as a collaborator with Lily Daché.
In 1958, he was in charge of designing for the millinery department at Bergdorf Goodman. Jacqueline Kennedy wore a pillbox hat he designed, which caused quite a stir. His long dresses, simple yet practical, became a huge hit in the United States in the 1970s, attracting customers such as Liza Minnelli and Elizabeth Taylor.
However, in the 1980s, the company fell into financial difficulties, and Halston sold his brand. He died of AIDS in March 1990.
