The theme of LAD MUSICIAN's 2014-2015 Autumn/Winter collection was "Minimal Art Rock 13." It was inspired by musician Lou Reed, who passed away last year, and The Velvet Underground (hereafter "The Velvets"), the band he was a member of from 1965 to 1970. The number "13" in the collection refers to the year of Reed's death. The runway recreated "The Exploding Plastic Inevitable," a live sound, light, and video performance by The Velvets with Andy Warhol around 1966. Projectors provided lighting, flashlights shone on a mirror ball, and loud Velvet music provided show music. The look followed the band's signature style of black turtleneck tops and slim-fitting bottoms. The distinctive styling of Spencer jackets and trench coats, with stand-up collars, long top hems, and gloves covering the hands, was inspired by the Velvets' lyrics "Protect your skin from the sun." The collection offers a wide range of outerwear, including chesterfield coats, trench coats, stadium jackets, pea coats, and padded coats. Materials also follow the inspirational source. Textiles include an arabesque velvet jacquard inspired by the band's name, a faux fur sweatshirt inspired by their song "Venus in Fur," and four thicknesses of lambswool-blend melton. The polka dot pattern, inspired by the album cover, is highlighted by a gabardine and satin weave. The fabric, woven with real silver glitter thread, was inspired by Warhol's "Silver Factory." Despite the glitter, a soft, non-itchy fabric was developed for a comfortable feel. Warhol's image is also reflected in the hibiscus pattern. The T-shirt is a collaboration with photographer Adam Ritchie, and features rare archival photos from the Velvet Underground's debut. This is also Ritchie's first attempt at a collaboration using photography.
