The Architect Lina Bo Bardi exhibition is running at the CCCSCD gallery in Okayama City until May 11th.
After World War II in her native Italy, 32-year-old Lina moved to Brazil with her husband. A journalist at heart, she arrived in a country with a complex, multiethnic society, but one where people enjoy singing and coming together in a relaxed atmosphere. She created unique architecture that blended the rational and sensitive modernist architecture she learned in Italy with the generous, indigenous dynamism of Brazil. Despite going against tradition and trends and even receiving harsh criticism, Lina has consistently valued "spaces for people's use." Her works, known as architecture for the people, remain beloved by many today.
Through her work, this exhibition offers an opportunity to consider how we create and use the places we live. The exhibition features four large models, including a 4-meter square model, and approximately 30 panels of drawings and photographs. Additionally, a reception will be held from 5pm on April 21st, and Watari Etsuko from the Watari Museum of Contemporary Art will also be visiting the gallery.
