"Japan, an Archipelago of Houses," an exhibition highlighting modern Japanese residential architecture, will be held at the Panasonic Shiodome Museum in Shiodome, Tokyo, from April 8 to June 25.
The exhibition showcases Japan's unique home-building traditions and contemporary homes that embody a natural aesthetic in unique, innovative forms. Visitors can encounter these world-class contemporary homes, along with the internationally renowned architects who designed them, as well as potential masters.
The exhibition was curated by a group of French photographers and architects who are deeply passionate about Japan. The venue was designed by Manuel Tardits, co-founder of the architectural design firm "Mikangumi," who has lived in Japan for 30 years. Two small houses will be built within the exhibition space. The exhibition is divided into three parts: "The House of Yesterday," "The House of Tokyo," and "The House of Today." Each part is thoroughly introduced through a wealth of fascinating photographs, videos, blueprints, interviews with architects and clients, models, and sketches. Guest artist Kyohei Sakaguchi will also exhibit drawings and hold public workshops. Architects featured include Kengo Kuma, Makoto Tanijiri + Ai Yoshida, Jun Igarashi, Daisuke Sugawara, and Taira Nishizawa. Additionally, on house-related days such as April 11th (Yoinoi), April 16th (Yoi Room), April 18th (Yoi House), May 8th (Meal), and May 26th (Ofuro), all visitors will receive a special paper craft house as a gift.
