Photographer Nobuyoshi Araki's solo exhibition "Indecent Autumn - Reflections on the Heart Sutra" will be held at Art Space AM in Harajuku, Tokyo, from September 9th to November 11th. Inspired by the works of Nagai Kafu and Santoka Taneda, as well as classics such as "Ojoyoshu" and "Man'yoshu," Araki has produced numerous masterpieces that reflect his own state of mind. This exhibition will feature the first showing of new works in which the Heart Sutra is inscribed in calligraphy on photographs printed on washi paper. The Heart Sutra teaches that everything in this world is "nothing" and that the human mind resides in "emptiness." These new works evoke the feelings of Araki, who continued to photograph the sky and flowers while thinking of his late wife, Yoko, while also conveying his strong desire to tirelessly pursue new creative horizons.
The exhibition will also feature Araki's latest work, which was created by cutting and directly splicing two instant film pieces together. Following on from his previously released collage series "Barrier" and "Hangeshi," this is a valuable collection of works born from Araki's meticulous manual work.
