A special screening of "TRACES OF A DIARY," a documentary film that delves into the daily lives of six Japanese photographers, will be held at VACANT in Harajuku, Tokyo, from June 29th to July 1st. The film, created by Portuguese artists Andre Principe and Marco Martins, follows the daily lives of six Japanese photographers, including Daido Moriyama, Nobuyoshi Araki, Takuma Nakahira, Hiromix, Shoin Kajii, and Kohei Yoshiyuki. Using the Krasnogorsk-3 rangefinder camera, a product of the Soviet era, the film captures the photographers' daily lives without a script, embracing spontaneity. Filmed over a period of approximately one and a half years, the film explores the image-making process, storytelling, and the essence of diary-style expression used by these Japanese photographers. At times, the documentarian himself appears in the footage and engages in conversation with the photographers, creating a documentary film that feels like a travelogue.
In addition to the film screening, the venue will be selling books related to the featured artists, including the photo book "TOKYO DIARIES," made from images taken by André Principe during the filming of the film. In addition, André Principe is scheduled to visit Japan from Portugal to coincide with the special screening.
