From July 13th to 24th, mame will be holding "Aramame," an exhibition of collaborative works with photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, at Morioka Shoten's Ginza store.
The collaboration came about when Mame's designer, Maiko Kurokawa, wanted to express the brand's vision more strongly in a way that differed from the seasonal lookbooks. She came across Araki's work "Arakiri," which consists of two different photographs cut down the middle and glued together to create a single piece. The exhibition at Morioka Shoten's Ginza store will feature and sell 10 of the photographs produced this time. Additionally, art director Rikako Nagashima designed a collection of these works. The book will be available for pre-sale at Morioka Shoten ahead of its general release in late July.
Regarding this collaboration, Maiko Kurokawa commented, "The beauty and sexiness I felt when seeing Araki's work in person was consistent with what I wanted to express through Mame. The vague associations I felt when seeing his work connected in part to my own clothing design. Just as there are things you can only perceive by capturing an image in a photograph, there are also things you can only feel when wearing clothes. Araki photographed women wearing Mame, and the resulting positive film was then manually glued together with another positive film to create 'Aramame.' I believe that this collection embodies everything I hold dear."
