Golden Goose Deluxe Brand (GGDB), which has grown from its atelier in Venice, Italy, into a global brand in just 10 years, has opened its flagship store in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo (5-5-6 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo). Starting with its iconic sneakers, the brand reinterprets the world of American vintage, exemplified by denim, with traditional Italian tailoring. Furthermore, through connections with the art world, including collaborations with the Venice Biennale, the brand has grown into a fully-fledged lifestyle brand. Currently, the brand operates in over 500 select shops worldwide. This Tokyo store is its second flagship store, following its Milan location, with plans to open in Amsterdam and Paris later this year. The five-story store boasts a sales floor area of 201 square meters. Its exposed concrete and glass facade feature the brand's signature stars and stripes graphic. The basement floor houses the brand's second line, "HAUS GOLDEN GOOSE DELUXE BRAND," which consists of sportswear and stationery. Stationery items include Faber-Castell and Rotring, as well as collaboration items with Japan's Tombow Pencil Co., Ltd.
The brand name comes from Aesop's fable, "The Goose and the Golden Eggs." Founded in 2000 by Venice-born Francesca Rinaldo and Alessandro Gallo, they purchased an old Venetian foundry and have gained recognition year after year for their products, which make use of Venetian artisanal techniques. The catalyst for this was a presentation of boots at a Ralph Lauren store in 2005. The lookbooks and catalogs, which are produced with great care each season, are also excellent. This season's men's collection is themed around ``wardrobe'' and features classic items dressed down with sneakers, while the women's collection is themed around ``skate park'' and proposes a feminine style that combines men's wardrobe items.
