"The Grand Budapest Hotel" special display unveiled at Prada Aoyama store

Jun 9, 2014

To coincide with the Japanese release of Wes Anderson's new film, "The Grand Budapest Hotel," Prada is showcasing a special display at its Aoyama store. The display runs until July 6th. The trunks and suitcases displayed in the window and throughout the store were custom-made for Madame D., the main character played by Tilda Swinton. Inspired by vintage Prada models from the 1920s and 1930s, the wooden frames are covered in oak and natural-toned vachetta leather for a vintage feel, while the lining is made of peach-pink satin cotton. Additionally, artist Miek Casal has painted the initials Mdm.C.V.D.u.T. (Madame Celine Villeneuve Desgoffe und Taxis) in a 1920s-style font. Also on display is a black nappa leather coat designed for Joplin, played by Willem Dafoe.

Prada and director Anderson have collaborated on projects such as the short film "Castello Cavalcanti," released last year, and this display is the latest collaborative project between the two.
