Ryuichi Saito of Andaz Tokyo's Rooftop Bar wins third place at world cocktail competition

Aug 6, 2015

Ryuichi Saito, a bartender at Andaz Tokyo, won third place at the global cocktail competition "The Chivas Masters." His cocktail, which captivated the judges, is now available at the Rooftop Bar at Andaz Tokyo. The second annual Chivas Masters, a global cocktail competition hosted by Chivas Regal, featured local competitions in 12 countries. The competition divided the years from the birth of Chivas Regal to the present day into four periods, and participants were tasked with creating four cocktails with a story inspired by each period. Ryuichi Saito of the Rooftop Bar at Andaz Tokyo won the Japanese competition and represented Japan at the global finals, held in New York on July 13th and 14th. The global competition consisted of six rounds, including assignments and workshops, and was judged comprehensively on creativity, style, flavor, and mixology techniques throughout each round. In the first round, where one of the four winning cocktails from each local competition was judged, Ryuichi Saito presented the "Personal Collins," a modern Japanese take on the classic cocktail "John Collins." It captivated the judges and earned him third place overall. Josh Reynolds, representing the UK, won the "2015 Chivas Master" title. Currently, the "Rooftop Bar" serves Ryuichi Saito's "Personal Collins," a cocktail that won first place at the national competition and was praised at the global competition.
